Exploration and North FL good ol' boys
I have a couple thoughts on this:
How does someone from South Carolina get called NFGOB??
None of the NFGOB explorers I know are against this; they are all very supportive. I've been here cave diving for nearly 20 years.
So far the only persons I have heard against this are instructors and one individual who believes the cave is his.
I find the drive to stifle the documentation of exploration completely abhorrent. Exploration is why many of us are cave divers; it has helped to further cave science more than any other means. And the Ginnie exploration has made some incredible discoveries. Exploration is the stated purpose of the NSS-CDS; see Article II of the NSS-CDS Constitution below. Please note that exploration comes before training.
ARTICLE II: The purpose of the organization shall be the same as that of the National Speleological Society (hereafter referred to as NSS), with the additional purpose of organizing NSS members who are interested in cave diving so that they may better promote the objectives of the NSS. These objectives include 1) promotion of the conservation, exploration, and study of underwater caves; and 2) education for increased awareness, safety, and skill in cave diving.
Also note that the purpose of the agency journals is not only to promote the agencies but to document the exploration being conducted.
If conservation of the cave was the motivation behind this; you guys are way too late. Skid row was trashed long ago; please try and be more timely in your efforts.
I(and everyone I know) fully support these exploration efforts by Andrew, Agnes, and James and believe they should be allowed to enjoy their day in the spotlight because they have not only done some amazing things but made significant findings concerning the hydrology of the Devil's system.
