The NACD and NSS/CDS don't appear to have the financial base to purchase a another good cave diving system.
So does anyone have or know of a web site regarding future cave purchases?
That said: I don't have $100,000 or even $50,000 to buy a dive site. But there are a lot of cave divers. Shouldn't it should be simple to set up a site and inquire about what is really available?
It's difficult to know how to handle something like wanting to see a cave bought, protected and available for you to dive. It's the dream of every cave diver I know. Investing in the type of group that has been suggested here is a little misleading. It's like buying a condo cheap. The dues go up, the roof needs fixed, etc. Any time you own property there are a lot more expenses than you expect as I am sure you know. Personally I think the most practical solution for wanting to buy and protect caves for a small amount that won't end up costing you more is to give a directed donation to one of the agencies that do just what you want. The CDS http://www.nsscds.org/ would be my first choice. They have a proven track record with underwater caves and management. I give $50 month to the Southeastern cave conservancy http://www.scci.org/ they protect a lot of caves in the TAG area that are open to be caved or dived for everyone. Both organizations are tax deductible. Your $1000 would go a lot farther. No need to recreate the wheel.
Not sure if this is what Puttzer was asking about but for the cave diving community in general, the NACD has a contribution program for a future cave purchase. As of August 2008, the balance was $14,500. While that is not enough to buy a cave, it is more money than when they started the program. I am sure the NACD still needs more people to contribute to the program. Deductions (which are probably tax deductible) can be one time or the NACD can charge your cc or checking account each month. Even minimum contributions will add up over a period of time. In a few more years, perhaps there will be enough to buy a cave. The link for more information is shown below.Quote:
