If anyone that is thinking about getting a closure done I just got the surgery done Monday and the bubble study before the procedure had about 30-40 bubble passing over and the one day after surgery bubble study had zero bubble passing over. So I'm my non scientific opinion if you have been getting bent and they find a pfo or asd and you want to keep diving the only thing to do it get it closed. Also if anyone has any questions or want a recommendation for a really good doctor to have it done by let me know. He has done at least 500 closures himself and does them at Duke a really nice hospital.
I'm not sure of the cost yet; however I think a lot of getting insurance to cover it is maybe a history of DCS and other variables to include migraines, variable blood pressure etc... I also think it has to do with the Dr. and how the approval request is stated. My Dr. informed me they don't have too terribly much trouble getting insurance to cover it with the exception of one company which is Cigna. He says sometimes insurance companies may put up a little fight as far as covering the procedure but typically approve it. Hopefully that is the case for me or I'll have a lot up for sale :)
My PFO procedure has been approved!! :)
