The one I'm looking at is almost the same as Salvo's 21W, except this one is 27. I think the battery pack I have planned will fit in 3" canister.

There is always a trade off... Laser beam tight focus or reliability, in this case.. I prefer the LED due to its reliability and sturdiness.

I think LED has a future, but I've had many a HID, all you have to do is look at the condition of the cans and heads to see what kind of life they've had, and I've yet to have an issue (knock on wood).

10 watt Sartek HID
18 watt sartek HID
21 watt salvo
35 watt salvo

Only "outage" I've had is when the wife yanked the light cord hard enough to unplug the guts.

The thing I like the most bout HID is the focus, when I get into nice clear tunnels I like to spread my 35 watt beam out, that and the HID is currently ahead in effeciency at higher watts.

With all of that said I'm following LED very closely, I'm for certain not opposed to running a LED but right now I have my heart set on a 50 watt hid when light monkey gets them going :-)

Now, if your taking requests for lights, I have some ideas for LED that I was thinking about putting into a project...

I recieved my canister on friday. I have been traveling since then, so I appologize for the delay. But it looks great! craftsmanshiip is supurb. I cant wait to get it in the water.
I just ordered a 2nd one and I cant wait until the heads are done to see how they look as well.

I just called the anodizer and it looks like I can get about 15 heads done for $70. It will cause a slight increase in price but not bad. I am also going to pay a machinist friend of mine $20 to thread the heads together. That is a more sensitive operation than I want to handle right now. At some point, if there is enough interest, I will take my prototype to a CNC guy and have them program to spit large numbers out. The first 4 lights should be ready in a matter of week. I think they are all spoken for. One to Thailand, one to Phillipines, one to Florida and I forgot where the last one's going...

Additionally, I am in contact with Osram to build me a custom LED... Single emitter 20W with driver for my aplication. I don't know if I can afford to buy 500-1000 of these at a time, but the sales guy offered a "samples" run of about 10-20 to get started. This should get me started and after that I may need to buy a bunch to make it worth their while.

I am also waiting for a 27W LED from Osram. Off the shelf unit with 6 LEDs on a single star board.

Also waiting for my new rotary table to start spining Delrin spool...

There are too many things going on in my head right now... Will definitely keep you guys posted.

3 canisters including the white one are sold. Two left.
I will be delayed 1 week since I am going to DEMA starting tomorrow until Friday. May be delayed another week due to anodizing. I don't know how quickly they'll get done. First batch may be anodized black. I think I will have to get them all one color.

Guys, just so you know, the initial batch of 5 canisters was my test batch. As such I am selling them for $100 (pretty cheap). I actually got a PM from one member telling me he wouldn't do a can for less than $200. The new batch, including the white ones, will be selling for $150. That includes shipping and Paypal for a complete canister with latches, switch, cord, clamps, etc. That is for the 2.5" model. As the size of the Delrin goes up, so does the price... Bigger Delrin means higher price and bigger can means more machining = higher cost.

Final pieces of this puzzle:
1. Finish threading the head
2: Finish machining heads
3. Anodize heads
4. Assembly

I hope 2 weeks.
