If closing a cave for a limited time is not a good answer what about survalnce equitment. Does anyone know what it might cost to have survalence installed at problem caves or if it would even be fessible.
Also does anyone know if the cave agencies have penatlies in place for someone getting caught defacing a cave if not would it be a deterant to put some in place?

This could be true. I tend to think that people are more driven to see things like the well casing,the whale bone,the grand traverse,the heinkel,the pressure guage,the stop light........ I wonder how many people log in their log books they saw a memorial plaque,or saw one of the aforementioned land marks. I would also say dive reports on forums cause more attrition than does a memorial. If some writes up that they did a certain tunnel,then you suddenly have a lot of interest generated in seeing that tunnel.Quote:
Positioning a plaque or other "memorial" in a cave can do more damage because everyone hears where it is and "has to go see it" thus possibly encouraging divers to "push their limits" if it is "back in the cave" and possibly causing "more attrition" in a specific part of a cave.

Typically when I do exploration I don't leave toys,nicks nacks etc on the line and in the passage as I explore. There is no such thing as exploration with out human impact,and my goal as well as other is to minimize it. Do you honestly think hiding a mask in Peacock or Ginnie is something that facilitates exploration,or grabbing rocks and peering around corners like grade schoolers at an Easter egg hunt. I guess Sheck left the chapter out of his book that the reason he explored so much cave is because he was looking for the Holy Grail.
