Here's a caving rule people need to QUIT FOLLOWING!

For some reason I feel the need to participate in this thread.

1) This is what happens when wreck divers learn how to cave dive. Every dive is a scavenger hunt! I'm just kidding, so please put down your crowbars and sledges.
2) The Trash Room is/was an anomaly, which makes it significant to some degree. I believe that many never really viewed it as "trash", it was more of a time capsule.
3) It also acted as a good reminder of how easily the aquifer can be affected, and how a single person can affect it. It has acted as an education tool for the locales.
4) I've been diving there for over a decade, I never really considered the Trash Room visually stunning, but it sure looked better a few years ago than it does now.

Some of you are missing the point. Even though it's not that old geologically, it's historical in that it provides us with information about something that is no longer there. Without the "trash" we probably wouldn't even know there was once a sink hole there. That's the historical significance.

But we know its there now, and its on all the maps :) I don't think we'll forget its there if the trash dissappears.

Is that true of trailer trash too?

Has there ever been an survey of archaeological the trash? I mean a detailed survey of the room much like you would a shipwreck?

Its an interesting question. Just because something may be of archaeological someday in the future does that mean we can touch it today? Doesn't that change the time capsule and taint it as a record? just because the mess in my basement may be an archaeological dig site someday does it mean I shouldn't clean it up today. Actually I may use that excuse.

I did a dive at JB last night.




I found a couple close pins on the floor.... I hope they were not historically significant closepins left by some historically insignificant diver!

I hope that you did not disturb them in any manner, only an archaeologist can make those sorts of determinations about the historical record.
