Own your own cave for $1,000

I am with the OP here. I am dropped a grand on other things without even realizing what I am doing. I think for that kind of money what ever details need to be worked out can be worked out later. I just do not think that there needs to be a whole lot of details.

I am not even a cave diver yet, (Hopefully next year), but I would be in for $1g, and possibly a bit more to build some sort of bunk house...

I do also think that it would be nice for a few people to be able to get into the cave and check it out. If after that it is deemed worthy, who am I to argue...

It's easy to form a corporation. Then issue 80 shares, each shareholder would have the rights defined in the corporate documents, as well as the defined expenses. Then the corporation actually buys and manages the property. If someone wants out, they could sell their share to someone else.

I want to mention that this was tried last year by Andrew Ainslie. He tried to find people interested in purchasing Vertigo Sink. Vertigo is on 8 acres of land in a gated community SE of Tallahassee. There is at least 2500 feet of line downstream, and Andrew has to tell you how much upstream. Lots of flow in the system. You would have had better luck handling snakes than he did with this, and he was looking for 10 people to agree on something, not 80. Just think of a group of 80 cave divers at the same time in the same room discussing how to spend $80,000. You can get the idea.

I am not sure about whiporwill, but I can tell you Vertigo has some nice cave. It is still for sale for $89,000.

I'm a bit strapped for cash right now, like GM and Chrysler (and BofA and Citigroup), but I'd kick in a couple sets of doubles, harnesess, and a drysuit!

I had a few PMs about a couple of deals that have tried this method and not succeeded. I am still waiting on responses with regards to the major sticking points that caused the deal to tank.

My gut - and this is solely based on my personal opinion - is that it would be EASIER to do the deal with more people rather than less because each person would be less invested.

Who knows, we've still got to find about 50 more people who are interested.

Do I need to start another thread looking for 90 people ;)

Hell, if we get enough people then we can choose which one to buy. I am trying to get down in March. Once I get the dates firmed up, I'll see if I can check out this sink.

I'm no expert, but I don't think you're getting the brunt of the hurricane like you do near the coast. In Atlanta, the hurricanes just cause thunderstorms and rain. I don't suspect that the weather would be any worse than a really bad thunderstorm (possibly tornados, but you can have those anywhere). I know the many of the systems were not divable after the hurricanes but that has also happened when the rivers rise from a lot of rain up north. I'll defer to someone else who has actually been in HS during a hurricane for a better report.
