at Troy or JB? I read the rebreather forum from VA Scuba about troy, got it that it was algea, but what about JB?

Algea or rock.
Carving is carving.
Use a slate if you feel the need to write.
After all the "writing" at Cow guess I am a little touchy.
I can't believe the girl did it AND took a picture.
Hope her instructor got on her and I hope she doesn't go in the caves.
Just my personal fellings.
I agree with you. but algea is easier to fix than rock and clay.
I didn't mean for it to sound that even though it was in algea, it wasnt a big deal. and I appologize for the misunderstanding if there was one.
Since I live near that area I frequent there dive shop since it is one of the few where I can get the mixes I want. I dont knew her personally though.
I got certified at Jackson Blue, that is why I was asking specifically about there. I have yet to dive Troy.
can anyone clearify the carvings at JB?
There was no misunderstanding. Sorry, I was just upset over both events. I tried not to sound to crazy :)
But no one should have to fix anything. Troy, even though not a cave, is a very beautiful basin to dive. Not so much anymore. It took a while for that algae to cover the rock. It will take several weeks/months for it to come back. If she was bored, she should have gotten out of the water. Vandalism is vandalism, whether it's permanent or not. And then to take a photo of it and brag about it on an Internet forum! Since you know her, please direct her to this thread so she knows what she did is wrong and that it has upset quite a few people.
Virginia Scuba is apparently proud of the vandalism the picture is posted on their website under Photo Gallery - Florida Springs '09
Interesting...
Well, it is defacement and punishable in Florida as Celia pointed out:
I'm sure the authorities could use that photograph posted on the website to prosecute. I, for one, will be sure to put VA Scuba on my black list.Quote:

sedimentary deposits.

Hah, Va Scuba is my local dive shop. I've only been there a few times because I do nearly all my diving in FL these days and prefer to shop at my friends' shops.
I'm kinda in the middle of all this. I don't believe the algae should be scraped away for all the reasons you folks post up. But it really isn't as bad as the Jackson or Cow events. Those won't naturally regenerate whereas the algae smearing will. That doesn't make it OK, but it doesn't make it the end of the world either (though possibly prosecutable!).
I would urge the people who find it abhorant to stick to their guns, but to indicate to the Va Scuba people in a more friendly manner the error of their way. When I read the postings in here, it kinda comes across as "we are the judges and you are the scum of the earth." People become defensive when you do that and are less likely to accept that there are other, better ways of looking at the problem -- and to spread the good word!
PS - I don't want to look at VA Scuba or anything written in the spring pool when I dive either.
