Little River State Park...

It may as well become a State Park. It lost all of it's charm when they paved paradise.

Cave diving is not supposed to be like Disney World or chain restaurants.

I used to love showing up at sunrise on Sunday's with a nice cup of coffee.

No one around, watch the sunrise at one of the prettiest spots in the country, sip coffee, take my time gearing up, go on a nice relaxing dive in a beautiful system.

Oh and you get to check out what interesting artifacts the locals left from partying the night before. Sort of like CSI, trying to piece together the events from the evening based upon the AM evidence. :-D

I for one, am pleased that it will become a state park. I hope Telford does some day too.

I don't mind paying a fee one bit if it culls the negative traffic. LR use to be one of the places you had to think twice about, unless you got out of the water before school let out.

I do admit that paving the area around the run didn't thrill me.

Thanks for the info Kelly ( Skip & I met you at Little River yesterday, Sunday)

Skip & I discussed this after our dive there yesterday, I know that with change, some things are better, some worse, but all in all I like Fla.'s state park system.

We buy a pass every year & it pays for itself many times over, the place is cleaned up & you feel a heck of a lot safer.

We hit Telford after Little River on Sunday hoping the Swamp Monkeys would be hung over & not bother us, which was pretty much the case, we had a great dive with no problems & the place was actually fairly clean for a change.

I don't use a DPV at at this time, but plan on one in the future, so would also hate for the state to take away that privilege.

You know I remember the old Little River very well,and I really miss the trees that at least made the 100 degree temperature a little more bearable when suiting up. But,the more I see the erosional problems occuring at Telford,the more accepting of the "paved paradise" I am. The running joke was where did you risk your life,on the trench or the dilapidated stairs,because cave diving was safe compared to these.

I agree,nobody likes change,but some change is inevitable. I think back 10 years ago and I'd drive down 252,51,47 etc and see the occasional farm house,now I see subdivisions. At least with a spring becoming a state park it will still retain recreational access,that is something you couldn't guarantee with a developer who is intent on "Little River Gated Community".

I agree with you about the trees. But what gets me is that when they designed the parking lot, they either forgot about cave divers with trailers, or just don't want us to bring them. There are no places for a truck and trailer. And the concrete bumpers prevent you from pulling through to use two spaces.

Who remembers when the steps collapsed (I believe in 1996) and you had to negotiate the cliff with doubles on?
