"Cobra guards". They never were a good idea, too much chance of getting the line caught between them, and the valves.

Yes Forrest that was them. Then right after that fad, the cave diver in style had to have a piece of PVC pipe bungee looped over the valves to prevent roll off.

A good place to look for valve hardware is on the bottom just below the keyhole. I have a large collection...sorry to all who lost them, never thought to do a lost and found here, I always considered them cave trash and finders keepers. Bill

You mean the things that caused lots of damage to cave ceilings by people who didn't care enough to work on their trim and buoyancy?

There are usually a few in front of the lips as well, along with the top plastic caps from scuba pro mk25 first stages.

In my 18 + years of cave diving this is the first time this has ever happened to me. Hopefully it'll be the last time. I was just headed into the cave when it happened and immediately turned the dive.

I wonder now how often it happens with swimmers. I didn't think they could snap off that easily, or maybe it isn't happening so easily, but I am shocked this seems like a common occurrence to you guys, this actually explains the second spring then.

I have no problem admitting when I screw up. It can be a learning experience for someone else. I'm surprised that it broke off so easily as it seemed like I barely skimmed the ceiling. I've already purchased new parts, but can use those for spares for someone else in the future. Thanks
