More scared if driving on the HWY to FL or my local caves then anything. Guess since I work EMS I see it all the time. To me the most dangerous thing I do is driving to go cave diving.

I have to agree with Slim statistically driving is far more dangerous.
If you have no life insurance that is a bit irresponsible for your family.
Watch out for the fine print of the policy language just to be sure they can't deny your claim if you should expire.
Early on in my cave diving we were asked by our instructor what we would do if there was a collapse.
He challenged us to always know the systems we dive so that we can plan in case of a blocked exit.
This was at Peacock so there were options he used this scenario to talk about gas reserve.
He then went on to explain that in some cases when a collapse occurs no matter what you do it is fatal.
It was poignant reminder that what we do comes with risk.
What his teaching drove home to me was that conservatism, training, preparation, are key.
I am considerably more conservative than most but have learned to take my time.
Slow and steady wins the race, one of my buddies says it best if you can not be at peace with your dive plan change it!
I try to plan most dives before I ever get to FL.
When I get there the plan is reran with buddies to get the ok, then rerun again at the site.
This keeps things clean and clear if there are deviations the dive is called.
Confusion kills!
One member of a team looses focus it can bite you!
Cave diving is a very safe pursuit when trained and rules followed.
However it is not without risk and yes people expire as a result.
This I can accept and I have open conversations with my loved ones.
Some are very adamantly concerned others understand regardless we agree on one thing, I am in no hurry to expire!

Consider this....
1) How many people do you know who have died in a car accident?
2) How many people do you know that drive or ride in a car almost daily?
3) How many people do you know who have died cave diving?
4) What fraction of the week do they get to go cave diving?
It will quickly ease your fears of driving vs cave diving.
Statistics are interesting. Talk all ya want about 1 in 10000 or 1 in 1000000, or whatever. When you're the 1, it's 100%. Be prepared to be the 1. Be prepared for those you care about to be the 1....financially, of course, but also in word and deed. Say the things that need to be said, every day. Love, forgive, hug, smile, and accept that you nor they are guaranteed tomorrow, even if you never leave the house and spend the day wrapped in sanitized bubble wrap!
Words to live by!
