Many other countries allow commercial use of drones (filming movies, sports coverage, ect). But the FAA has placed a TOTAL BAN on all civilian commercial drone use in the United States while they "study" the issue.

Regulations regarding commercial drone flights in the USA will probably be written by the FAA within the next decade or so. But until then, Hollywood has to shoot any scenes with drone cameras ("Casino Royale" opening motorcycle chase scene) overseas where camera drones ARE permitted.

Guys people have been making there own fpv planes (drones) for years. It's only now becoming popular.

I heard about the footage earlier today. I hear it was pretty boring, in part because of all the tree cover, but also in part with a lack of editing. I understand the person also did it at Ginnie and the resulting film was a bit better.

I don't know how long this has been in place, but I have "heard" about some limited use of these on sets in the US quite recently.

Gene, the FAA has no clue as to what's happening with drone flights. Only need to read the Gainesville Sun to hear about latest developments and guess where the testing is taking place, out in the "countryside". Commercial use, you have a point and I submit a lack of knowledge. My reference is only relevant to a certain drone designer for a certain company that does demos for un-named customers in a large field in Alachua county.
