Wingman, SWADiver & myself made an Emerald Sink dive today. The ranger at the gate at Wakulla was awaiting our arrival as per our dive request time. Conditions were very good. Depending upon what position you are in within your dive team your forward visibility will range from 20 feet to 50ft. Perculation is heavy in spots so be prepared for reduced returning visibilty.
For todays dive : Max depth upstream 45ft & Max depth for a short downstream excursion 150ft. Detectable flow on the upstream side. Temp at depth 69 degrees F.
Several things to remember about Emerald:
a) Very fragile cave, please avoid pull & glide
b) Extremely dark walls & deep black silt. Watch you trim, stay clear of the ceiling and floor.
c) Line markers only about every 300-400 ft and change direction as you approach Cheryl Sink upstream.
d) Silt you stir at the bottom of the steps will cloud the gorgeous basin
e) Gold line up & downstream starts at the bottom of deco tree
f) Run a reel from steps to deco tree at 20 feet and then down to gold line
g) FAX your request to the park 5 days in advance
h) PLEASE REMEMBER YOU ARE AN AMBASSADOR for the cave diving community. Be polite & kind to the rangers.
i) Be back to turn in your key at the park before your due time.
j) Portable toilet in parking lot
k) Carry your trash out
l) Cheryl Sink land access is for emergency egress only.
Enjoy
Vince
