What is TEKDiveUSA?
TEKDiveUSA is an epic diving conference geared towards technical diving for both the novice and the expert diver. It does not matter if you are a seasoned explorer or if you are just tech curious. We offer a chance to meet with the technical diving community and hear from experts and explorers pursuing some of the most exciting projects on the planet. TEKDiveUSA offers a wide range of presentations covering subjects from cave diving, wreck diving, diving physiology, mine diving, underwater photography & videography, rebreathers, and technical training and safety protocols.

What happens at TEKDiveUSA?

The event will kick off with a Barbecue on Friday the 27th followed by two days of conferences and exhibitions on April 28th and 29th, 2018.Friday night, April 27th, 2018 meet up with friends both old and new from around the world , network and meet some of your personal dive heroes. This night gives attendees, exhibitors and speakers and opportunity to get up close and personal. The technical diving community knows how to have a good time! The Friday Night Barbecue Dinner will take place at the Paradise Key of the Wyndham Orlando International Drive Hotel.

Saturday April 28th will feature a welcome session followed by a selection of 15 different presentations on the most fascinating projects, theory and information happening right now in technical diving. An exhibition of the latest gear and services will be open throughout the day. Saturday evening features a gala dinner. The TEKDiveUSA Gala Dinner is an opportunity to rub shoulders with the technical diving community's elite! A delicious meal, award show, charity auction and amazing prizes to be given away, will make this a memorable evening.

Sunday April 29th will feature a selection of 15 more presentations and exhibition. Panel discussions, exploration teams and individual speakers have some amazing presentations they are getting ready right now! See the Schedule here.

What are your thoughts on in water recompression? At TEKDiveUSA.2018 David Doolette will be presenting the process and evidence behind a committee of diving medicine experts who recently revised guidelines for the prehospital management of decompression illness. This committee reached a cautious, qualified endorsement of in-water recompression in some circumstances. Is this a topic you are following?

Just a suggestion: for some of us, cave/technical diving is but a hobby with significant time (and material and monetary) expenditure as it is. Attending conferences tends to cross the line from hobby to something more. I would definitely like to hear Dr. Doulette discuss IWR. Since there don't seem to be conference proceedings, maybe recording and putting up the talks for purchase might be something worthwhile considering. I could be wrong but I suspect those attending TEKDiveUSA will likely attend irrespective of whether for-purchase media is available or not. For others, access to talks may have significant educational value. It could also be another revenue stream for the conference organizers. Thank you for your efforts.

During the TEKDiveUSA.2018 Gala Dinner there will be a charity auction and raffle held. Proceeds go in part to the TEKDiveUSA technical diving scholarship fund with a goal of inspiring and empowering the next generation of technical divers. The TEKDiveUSA Technical Diving Scholarship's mission is to cultivate the next generation of safe, experienced technical divers by providing a solid foundation of quality training, a fundamental understanding of technical equipment, a breadth of experience and the financial assistance to do so.

About the Scholarship
Founded in 2016, the TEKDiveUSA Technical Diving Scholarship will provide internships, mentorships and training and educational opportunities. The TEKDiveUSA is a proud supporter of cave research and scientific diving to help all divers better understand the underwater environment. The first of the 2016 scholarships was awarded to a young scientist working in cave research, Lauren Ballou from Texas A&M University at Galveston. A brief overview of her project can be found here. In addition students from 20 different universities were offered educational opportunities with TEKDiveUSA. The first of many opportunities for 2018 TEKDiveUSA scholars will include a GUE Fundies class.
