Most of the really big spiders have not strung their web across the trail by May, but you will find a few smaller ones. The wet moss on the downed trees will have a few saddleback caterpillars and millipedes. The poison ivy and oak will be spreading their cheer across the swamp. The alligator snapping turtles will be off their nests by then, and lying around under logs and ledges. Sooo, don't worry about the gators.
