Poseidon technicians....

Does any body know a really good Poseidon tech?
While exiting Madison Blue, my good old Odin/Jetstream reg. began to freeflow. What? An upstream reg goes freeflowing likes there's no tomorrow! I don't have a decent explanation; the reg was refurbished and this was its first dive.
I verified the IP and it was at a steady 145psi. Then I tried a Sea Elite Octo and it breathes like new.
So I am guessing that it was a lousy tech. job.
Can anyone recommend a really good Poseidon tech?

The Poseidon second stage is completely unlike conventional second stages. You can't totally blame the technician if he doesn't work on that many.

It's like the Oceanic Omega; although I've been working on all the other Oceanics for ten years, I won't touch an Omega, because I completely AM NOT an expert on servo valves, and I think you should always have your reg serviced by an expert.

I did download the complete Poseidon service manual off the internet last month (154 pages - go to frogkick.dk) so I can start reading up on them. Maybe you want me to work on yours. Remember that Aamco commercial from the 1960s (insert redneck accent) I'll work on it, boss. I always wanted to work on a foreign transmission.

Anyway, PM sent on a real Poseidon tech.

Jean disconnect the odin from the 1st stage and then check the IP and let the IP gauge set for 5 mins under pressure and make sure there is no creep happening . If it is stable then it narrows it down to the odin for sure.

A jetstream/odin can freeflow for a number of reasons, not a creeping first stage though, because that will only cause the OPV to open (it's an upstream design).
If you were not using it, it's probably due to the +/- selector on + and something touching the purge valve; when the jet starts freeflowing at full speed it's nearly impossible to stop it.
If the reg worked fine through the dive and started freeflowing out of the blue I would think of something either blocking the sintherized filter of the silicon nipple, or something getting underneath the seat of the servo-valve (the needle touching the membrane).
Or some dirt getting between the nipple and the seating area, the cylinder with the holes.
Unless of course it's a totally broken nipple, I've never heard of one though.
A Jet second stage is easier to take apart and adjust than most regs, if you don't feel like doing it though bring it to the guy that serviced it, I don't think it's his fault.
Please note that even if the jet will work with any pressure from 5bar/72psi up to whatever the OPV is adjusted to (usually 16bar/232psi), it works best with 8.5bar/123psi.

This falls under the catagory of "Doh!! I already spent the money" but I bought a Odin Jetstream and after using it as my Primary reg for 3 years I came to the conclusion that for the money I could have done just as well or better with some of the "Made in USA" regs on the market.
I had to take it down to West Palm for maintenance. It took 3 weeks to get the parts and when all was said and done it cost me almost $150.00. I know......They probably saw the word "Sucker" I have tattooed on my forehead or is that the norm?
I now dive Scubapro and based on feedback from divers I've met in Cave Country, the impressive owners/maint manual on their website, and the ease of obtaining and availabilty of parts, I may purchase a couple of DR RG-2500's in the near future.
IMHO the Poseidons are great regs but just don't warrant the extra attention and cost. Besides......The Odin makes you look like you have a big tumor sticking out of the side of your face. :-D

My experience has been different, I have never had them serviced in 13 years of use, I just check the IP every couple of years, they still work great, so overall the money spent on them has been minimal (even new they can be found for less than most top-quality regs).
It is true however that they require a few seconds of additional attention at every dive, and I'm told the service kit is expensive.
