Hopeful Restoration of Volusia Blue Spring

An interesting read from the Orlando Sentinel regarding hopefully restoring the flow at Volusia Blue Spring.

Thanks for the info..Blue Springs has a special meaning... I believe Blue was originally a 1st magnitude spring when I first dove there in the early 70's. So if the article mentions restoring the flow there must have been a significant drop.

Very interesting article and thanks for sharing. Where I greatly appreciate Manatees,I have to wonder why motivations for fixing spring problems in Florida has to be Manatee-centric versus just the right thing. Hence,the way the residents in White Springs can fix their problem is to get a couple Manatees.

I was there 3 days ago and I didn't feel any change in the flow. It's still impressive! The quality of the water has changed much over the past few years though.

As long as population growth, sewage, green lawns are deemed by local governments to indicate 'good environment', this spring and others will continue to degrade. Having dived Blue Spring hundreds of times over the past 20 years and watch it degrade from white pristine limestone walls to algae covered brown walls, the degradation is obvious. It will take more than $115 million dollars to correct.
