Welcoming Dr. Mike

I would like to welcome to the group Dr. Mike.

He has graciously come our way to learn about cave diving and about the adventures to be found in Florida.

I can say from the other forums that this is a great guy and has some interesting stories to tell from his experience in wrecks and other interesting venues.

So everyone please welcome Dr. Mike- his views are interesting and his dive rig is rather different (MK15.5 rebreather.)

Hey thanks for that welcome :oops: (wasnt expecting that) :-D
Im really looking forward to checking out this cave diving business - it looks realy interesting. Its great being the first to dive a virgin wreck or the first to penetrate an unexplored part of a wreck/find a bell or something, but doesnt mean much as many people would have been on that ship and in those areas before she sank - The idea of exploring and mapping a virgn cave were nobody has ever been before - well thats real exploration!


Im lucky as around where I live its teaming with virgin wrecks, and Ive had my share for sure, but this part of the world also is now being opened up to cave diving. Only a handful of guys are actively looking and opening up new caves around here. Theres some new caves sites to explore in Thailand, Philipines and Indonesia. Cant wait to get my training done, some experience built up and then to see what I can find.

Welcome to the forum Mike. Having read your posts eslewhere, I can assure you that you will find cave diving quite rewarding. There is nothing like the very first time you enter a virgin passage. Even if you find out later that someone had previously explored it, it still will not take away from that rush you got just thinking that you were the first one on there. Enjoy your time here in training and have fun, after all, that is what it is all about 8)

He dives with a Mk-XV rebreather?
thats frikin awsome, it has like a 3 hour bottom time (i think)

I think he's diving a Mk 15.5. The scrubber duration is over twice that long. I think it's like 6-7 hours.

Ive done 10 hours on it a few times but usually change it out after around 6-7. I know KevinD and DrJM both do 10hours on theirs. IIRC the Navy rate them at 6 hours at 90m. - of course it really depends on the dive/depth/exersion/temp etc. There can be a lot of variation - best to be a bit conservative.
