Roubidoux (MO) 7/17-18/2011

A few very nice dives in RBD this weekend!

Conditions are very good--62 F, 20 ft. vis, low flow.

Did stage practice and ran jumps on Saturday, with a poke the head in the lower tunnel profile.

Today went to the Big Room in the lower tunnel. Great sightings of sculpins and albino crawfish in the lower tunnel! Not as smooth as I'd like yet with multiple stages in side mount, but got the job done with no issues, and my buddy (Scububa) was totally smooth! 93 minute run time with 36 minutes at 145 ft., 27 minutes O2 deco at 20 ft.

From the weather up there recently, I'd have thought it was blown out. multiple stages for practice or necessity? mixes in them?

I ran 20/15. Doubles 119 and one bottom gas stage 80 Al. Deco on 80 Al of 50% and 40 Al of 100%. (I took 2 40s in since getting 3000 of O2 isn't happening up here.)

Flow was pretty low. Reports are the vis in Cannoball is improving to 40'. It was ~25' last weekend.

And, obviously, if Bill thought I was smooth, he was preoccupied with his stages :-) But, thanks, Bill.

Skip, haven't you dived the lower tunnel in RBD? You must join us some time. There isn't any cow crap or wildlife, but it is a pretty cave with varying geological features.

I've been in RBD, but just to the lower tunnel, maybe a little bit of it. One time only. I remember what a nice cave it was and how much I wanted to return and spend some time in it. But I was with a group and it was a fast moving group of pros..slim, forrest, mike on his gem, and brandon, so I didn't have much time to just play around! 62 minutes. 150 feet depth, 23/22 (odd mix, but that's what I had), 50% stage, 99% deco. So is that the lower tunnel? I have it on my schedule for September. Don't know if we'll come up a few days early or stay a few days after the minicon "near" St. Louis, but I'm hoping to dive it then. Be our guide?

That was the lower tunnel all right. Would love to be your guide for another dive there the weekend of the conference. And that depth is great for odd left-over mixes--a little helium is nice but probably not necessary. I dived on EAN 25 this past weekend, but have done it on air, 20/30, 20/20, 20/15, probably even 20/10. See ya soon!

Actually, as wet as it was at the end of Spring, and into the start of Summer, it has been remarkably dry the last 3 weeks or so.

Just curious,... are there any published maps of Roubidoux? I would be curious to have an idea of what the system looks like. I know the map of Cannonball in very interesting.

Yes there is a map the OCDA made that is awsome. Check with them.

I hear they will be giving a presentation on all their activities at the NSS/CDS miniconference in St. Louis in September. Maybe they'll bring maps.
