DR cave safety problem
Dive centers and irresponsible instructors are still taking OW divers way pas the cavern zone in the caves here, they swim right by the warning signs as if they were not there.
We have tried everything, distributed information letters, talked to dive shops, the authorities etc.. but nothing seems to work.
So I have decided to replace the current warning signs and make the new ones really disturbing. One the ones currently installed we used pretty much the same wording as the NSS ones, but people do not seem to even pay attention.
The new text will be
IF YOU ARE NOT FULL CAVE TRAINED YOU WILL PROBABLY DIE DIVING PAST THIS POINT, THIS IS NOT A SAFE DIVE IT IS A HIGH RISK CAVE DIVE.
DO NOT TRUST, LISTEN OR FOLLOW YOUR INSTRUCTOR OR GUIDE IF THEY TAKE YOU PAST THIS POINT THEY DO NOT CARE ABOUT YOUR SAFETY OR YOUR LIFE AND WILL PROBABLY GET YOU KILLED.
WOULD YOU GO SKYDIVING OR ROCK CLIMBING WITH NO TRAINING? DON'T BE STUPID TURN BACK NOW!!!
in smaller print at the bottom of the sign this might be good
IF YOU SURVIVE PLEASE WRITE A FORMAL COMPLAINT TO PADI INFORMING THEM THAT YOU WERE LED ON A FULL CAVE DIVE BY YOUR INSTRUCTOR OR GUIDE.
I think this might get some OW clients to at least consider not going past the signs, any suggestions would be much appreciated but IMHO we need something like this.

Change "lead" to "led" and it looks good.

Have you tried snipers at the surface? Pick off a couple of guides, problem solved!
Otherwise, good sign. I guess PADI is the only agency down there?
-
oops thanks, I think this might catch the attention of at least a few people

Wow, PADI has a cave program. They call it DIPS, doing-it-padi-style.
I like the text. It may get the attention of students that are still using commom sense.

I would have spare signs made. This sign is likely to be so effective that the very guides that you are having problems with may come into the caves without customers and remove the signs.
You might consider adding language that adds information like... THIS IS EXACTLY THE TYPE OF DIVE YOU WERE TOLD TO AVOID IN YOUR OPEN WATER CERTIFICATION CLASS

You could put a couple of nails in the post to hang cookies on with the names of local funeral parlours. Note on the sign for them to go ahead and pick one now if they are going on without training. And you could also attach a toe tag...
"Please select the Parlour of your choice, fillin the toe tag completely, and securely fasten the cookie to your body so we'll have the info upon your retrieval."

For those who choose to ignore it anyway, you might place a few skeletons with rotting dive gear about 50 feet past the sign.
