Default Cozumel & Akumal 5-8 Jul

Anybody going to Yucatan after the 4th looking for dive buddy? I am leading group of rec/open water divers to Cozumel for week of boat dives 28 June - 5 July. [Still have room on trip if you're interested in seeing marine life]. I am staying thru Tues 8 Jul to do whatever cave dives I can get in. Plan on staying on Cozumel for a day to do some cenotes or caves there. Then go across to caves in Akumal or Tulum. Have not reserved anything yet. As a single, guided dives are expensive. Hoping to join a small group or individual for some great experiences.

PADI Instructor, Deep Tec cert; TDI AdvNitrox & Deco Instructor; NACD Full Cave almost a year with 20 post FC and 45 total cave dives.

    Default Cozumel

I dove in Cozumel a couple of years ago with German Yanez who is an NSS instructor. My dives were limited because I only had 1 day (I was on a cruise). In any case I would recomend him to anyone looking to cave dive. He was very safe and thorough his briefings. The cave we dove was hidden off the side of a road (the name escapes me at the moment). You had to hike about a 1/4 mile in the woods to get there so it wasn't something you could find on your own. His web site is below. Hope you have a great trip.

Just got back from a similar situation. On Coz for a week with the ultimate diving princess (my wife). Sent her shopping for a couple days and got a hall pass to take the ferry to the mainland. Yucatek now has a full time cave guide on staff. Alan has been diving the Centotes full time for quite a while and we did some very good dives. I was not really up for hiking through the woods with my gear though. So I guess we did the "touristy" cave dives.

I particularly enjoyed Tajma Ha Cenote with a dive to the Chinese Garden.

This dive also offers spectacular photo opps in the cavern zone if the sun is cooperating.

The Yucatek staff was very laid back and was easily able to accomodate last minute schedule changes due to some creative baggage handling by American Eagle...

I'll be in the area August 17-21. Would like to find a buddy. I will be fully cave certified by then.

Thanks for the advice. I got with German at the end of my trip and did a dive in Aerolito with him and a FC student. Dark and narrow but very impressive. Aerolito is saltwater below 20 feet and warm. German said there is 60,000ft of surveyed passage there alone. His web site lists 5 cenotes and caves to explore. Well worth the effort to dive.
