I need some help to make sure what I’m doing makes since. Background, I’m trying to work my way into cave diving but I’m on a limited budget. The cave training and equipment cost is killing me. Also I have a son that is doing this with me so the cost is double.

I need 4 reels a primary and secondary x2. I could buy all dive rite reels at a cost of $390, I‘m not too fond of this option, or I could make them myself.

Here is the plan, buy the spools, clip, knob, and bushing from dive rite( total cost $80.50). Buy the line on the internet for $14.00. Order the stainless steel and have it sent to my dad so he can bend it and drill the hole to make the handle ($40.00). My total cost for 2 primary and 2 secondary reels is $139.00. This is a $250.00 savings.

I know I’m not the first person to think of this but I can’t find any DIY on dive reels. Please reply back with some inputs. Thanks.
