    Default Sea Life Camera?

When I emailed Sea Life about needing repairs on my DC310 (18 months old), this is rhe reply I got:

"The DC310 has been out of production for 2 years and we are currently
out of refurbished cameras. We are waiting on our supplier to give us an
answer on when or if we will receive more cameras. Sorry to give you
this news. You might want to call me or e-mail me in a couple of weeks
    to check on availability.

I never heard of a company that wold not repair or service what they sell. Seems to me like a real drawback to buying from them....I was thinking of upgrading to the DC500, but doubt they would service that one either. Anoyone else have any experience with Sea Life?

That's very common. For example, if your Oceanic computer gets sent back for whatever reason, you don't get the same one back; yours gets thrown on the "to be refurbished" pile, and they pull one off the "refurbished" pile and send it back to you.

One of the shops I work at has been selling Sealife for about eight years. When I flooded my housing in Bonaire (my fault), they told me to just send it in, and they sent me a refurbished camera and housing. All it cost me was shipping.

I'm sure in several weeks they will get some refurbs in and you'll be satisfied.

Skip … I also have a DC310. Sorry to hear you can’t get yours repaired or replaced. I know others who had theirs replaced many times and I heard Sea Life has excellent customer service. Maybe you will get the answer you want to hear soon.

On the flip side, camera technology is progressing at a rapid pace, just like desktop computers. What’s in one year is out the next. New technology might be a good way to go. I hope they have another rebate before Christmas! The downside is this is usually the older models (closeouts).

Is Karl Schuster related to Curtschu?

Default refurbish or not to refurbish?

I too have had good past customer service from Sea Life - they replaced a bad housing (spring was bad, it didn't leak), and was surprised to get a whole new housing and a brand new internal camera too! That camera was the old film type, before they had digital, and I'd had it for years before the spring broke. Naturally I expected the same great service....

I took the camera apart and see the problem. There's a little tiny square of tin (4mm x 4mm) with four connectors on a green circuit board (DS3000 switch) with a tiny gray plastic circle in the middle that is the switch to take the picture. It is stuck in the down position and just won't travel anymore. If I work it just right I can get it to work and take a picture. I think I just need a new switch. It looks totally simple and a little soldiering should remove it and allow a new one to go in it's place....but where would I get a new DS3000 switch? Radio Shack maybe?

I've built computer clocks/timers, various circuit boards for interface applications (turn on and off relays to control AC appliances), so this is not rocket science. Guess I'm getting old when I expect a technician to actually tear into something, replace defective parts, and send it back good as new!

I don't know Karl or Curtschu! Just quoted Curtschu....
