    But seriously, the only time an instructor suggested NOT running a line to open water (just to safe exit point) was at the base of the chimney at Devils Ear. With lots of teams in cave, too many lines running thru the ear can be an entanglement risk. If multiple lines present, run my line from a big rock at the base of the chimney to the gold line at the sign.

    I will never forget the time at Jackson Blue where an *instructor* asked me if I was going to run a line then if he and his student could use mine.

    I was taught that if it wasn't safe to run a line due to too many lines (divers) already in then the dive should be aborted and go to a different site/entrance. That happened at the eye on one of my training dives and the exit was rather extended while we extracted ourselves multiple times from the web of lines. The debrief was focused on having made the wrong decision to force our way in when there were already too many lines/people that had entered there.
