    I don't use balanced P-valves.

Ditto on that! Infection was bad. I put mouth wash through it and haven't had a problem since.

Ok, I'll take this one step further. I would like to know if say I make a 3 gallon batch of staramine solution and soak my couterlung, loop hoses, etc in it. Can I take the parts out of the solution and reuse the solution again, or do I have to dump the solution at that point because it is contaminated or ineffective?

Dump it -- steramine is inexpensive.

A cheaper way is to make up a batch, but don't soak everything in it. Just pour some in the hoses, and lungs, and swish it around for awhile. Then pour it out into a bottle to use to clean your P-valve.

I pull the tubing from my suit and boil it every couple of months.

Good thing I spend so much time in the shower washing that little bit of skin. I soap it up and go over it back and forth for at least a few minutes a day.

On a more serious note: good to know. I will start cleaning the plumbing regularly. How does a back-flow occur though?
