Thread: Hart Info....

    Default Hart Info....

Need info on line location/conditions for Hart Spring/Black Lagoon.
Never done Hart...where does the main line start? Is the line continuous (no jumps) to the BG? Arrows? Been to the split upstream of the BG, years ago.
I saw a blog by James Garrett from a couple years ago saying there are halfway arrows at 1000'
Expect the flow to be ripping for the first 4-500' or so...nice ride out!
Rules still the same...full cave and Abe Davis. $2 park fee, $20 dive fee?

The rope comes out to the bottom of the chimney in Little Hart. Let us know how the condition of the rope is, I helped Forrest put it in a couple of years ago and then we cleaned it up this past fall. With all the flow in the cave, it's only a matter of time before it needs to be replaced again.

The rest seems about correct. It's well worth tracking down someone to guide you in the Black Lagoon, it's a fun dive!

Also, not sure what you mean by the split, but the park only allows dives on the goldline. No jumps allowed unfortunately.

Did the BL years ago with Jerry Murphy and my current buddy....very pretty section of the cave, lots of interesting goethite. The split is back upstream maybe 1500 ft. or so from the BL, shows on the map.
Will give a report on line condition when later next week.
    Thanks for the update.

Is there some way to tell on the map where the main line is routed? Lots of loops and jumps all over the place, would just like to know where the cave is going.
    And yes...I have a compass...lol!

    Thanks

If you have any other insurance besides DAN and Mitchell is still there be prepared for
A long wait while your insurance is verified
Didn't have an issue with another ranger the time before
we had 3 of us with 3 different plans and it took over 2 hrs

None of us has been back since

Looks like Abe Davis, full cave, and DAN ins. are the keys...oh, and cash, of course!
    No problems there.

The line is tied at the surface near the stair on the right side at black lagoon, looking in. Drops over a log at 3-4 feet, then down the hole. Flow was strong, but not unbearable. Was there last weekend.

Did Hart (entered at the spring) on Friday (26th). Check in process was pretty simple.....pay the (combined) entry and dive fee of $20 plus tax, sign release form, add name to divers list (assume that will make things simpler next time, re: Abe Davis, cave card) DAN ins. expires so would need to be current each trip.
Flow ripping at the entry chimney, but lots of hand holds...5/8" "guide" line for pulling starts at about 30 ft. of depth in the chimney...cave levels out at about 65'. Flow is strong but totally passable for the first 400' or so, where the "guide" line stops. Gold line is in place from start of guide line and in pretty good shape but stained pretty dark from the river reversals.
Cave has very interesting geology, average depth about 70-78 ft, flow is much less after the guide line ends..hit a few spots with what seemed like "eddies" that made the flow almost non-existent. Plenty of arrows, including 1000' halfway to Black Lagoon arrows. Descent line from Black Lagoon tied into the gold line and very easily evident. Swam about 200' past the BL, (sm 95's) turned at :36 minutes and thirds, which was very conservative considering the flow...made it out in :17 minutes. 32% EANX yielded :08 minutes deco on an extremely conservative computer...buddies less so computer only showed :03 minutes
Viz. averaged 40-50', particulate....LOTS of side passages with well-hidden lines (no jumps allowed in cave, I'm told.).
Beautiful day, stellar weather...going back with a GoPro soon.
There's a nice gearing up bench right by the kayak/paddleboard concession shack about 60 ft. from the concrete steps into the water.
