What tools should I bring?
Most of the needed tools will be provided by the park. But you should bring work gloves, eye and hearing protection. We will be doing some painting, removing bamboo, digging out some old stairs, and finishing up construction at Martz. Bring cordless drills/drivers, loppers, shovels, etc. if you have them.

Hi all, looks like we have a good group so far. As Mike said, bring work gloves and some eye protection. Regarding tools, the park should have most of what will be needed. If you want to bring a cordless drill, loppers, or pointed shovel, just bring one. I would mark them with your name.

Volunteers for ECO-Day had a productive day at Madison on Saturday which was a perfect day for some outdoor work. Accomplishments included:
- Installation of the last piece of railing on the Martz steps leading to the water.
- Construction of a bench at the halfway platform on the Martz steps.
- Installation of a new tank bench at Martz Sink just before the start of the wooden walkway.
- Placement of 5 yards of limestone around the Martz steps and deck for erosion control.
- Painted the ladies bath house.
- Removed some unwanted bamboo to the right of the ranger station as you drive in.
Fellow cave divers on site included Forrest Wilson, Steve Boyer(and Marilyn), Rick Robinson, Jeff Hawes, Jeff Reeves, Jerry Murphy, and Mike and Bonnie Stine. Also, we had some local non-divers, high school students, and park rangers who helped. I think the final count was 23 plus 4 from another CSO who installed a new entrance gate.
Afterwards, lunch was served to all volunteers - thanks Mike Stine. Door prizes were donated by Cave Excursions, Amigos, Cave Country Dive Shop, Extreme Exposure, and the NSS-CDS. Dive Outpost also contributed but someone named Sandy did not make proper arrangements to pick them up. Thanks to Nestle Deer Park for water.
As a reminder, Steve Boyer and team will be at WSPSSP replacing the steps and ultimately the changing rooms (with a roof) at P1 the next four weekends. If you are in the area, they could use your help for a few hours or more.
Safe diving,
Sandy Robinson
Eco-Day was a great success due to the efforts of the many volunteers. A big thanks goes to Sandy for organizing the day. As Sandy pointed out, we will be starting work at Peacock Springs this Saturday March 25 and could use more help. Call me at 850-728-0098 for more information.
