    Backscatter posted a comparison of several video lights. It's an odd comparison, read the methods. Basically it is trying to measure the rate of change in relative brightness as you move out from the center of the beam. It's a little odd, but in some cases it does point out more even light distributions in otherwise similar lights.

    I always use gels on all the lights, its the only way to really guarantee soft edges. The gels are actually more like not very opaque tracing paper only made out of heat resistant plastic and are really cheap.

    Adorama or BH in Ny sells these for like $5 a big sheet (about 10 lights worth)
