Haven't gotten to that point yet. That reasoning makes good sense though. Didn't know if it was for comfort or another reason.

I think most refer the mods to Eds, just as I do because Edd is the one doing the mods to the SMS and Nomad. Every person out there has different ways of doing things and it if works for them, great. However, for ppl that are having issues or what ever the case is, they go to Edd and Frank does the standard changes THEY do on ALL the rigs they modify. I refer to it as Edds for that reason. I dont think ppl are saying that Edd came up with that very way, and yes they are simular in some ways to other rigs, but they are not doing mods to those. They are doing mods to rigs that dont come like the Recon, Arma., and others of simularity, and I think that is why ppl refer to that. Not only do they changes things on the rigs, they check your tank bands, chokers, and clips to make sure they go along with the changes they made to the rig.

Yes some of the things they do does give you more room and comfort. For me with my Nomad, once I got everythig worked out, there was no comparrison. I went to Edd but I have asked and talked to many ppl on here and other places on things that I needed help with. Edd has done alot of diving with the different systems and found things that work and is offering to make the mods for anyone. RN has been a big help to me also. He has given alot of advice and does some of the same things Edd does. But, each have different thoughts behind the way and reason they do things they do.

    offraoda1,
I had the chance to dive a rig both ways and here is my thoughts.

With the standard straps routing back to the sides, it was comfortable and fit fine. I tried to put my lights there and it was ok except thay were under the edge of the tank, pushed in on my sides, and bunched up the neck of the tank.

On the modified rig, I found that the straps offered a straight down way to attach my lights with NO restriction or anything that was affected by them. They also felt more comfortable and less restricting in the under arm area as there was no strap running back under the armpit. It seemed to pull the shoulder strap straight down in the front and not off to the sides some.

That is the major things that I noticed with the mod.

Some of the mods are specifically designed to compress the top of the wing so that it inflates at the bottom first. This puts the lift between the tanks (center of mass) which is why it is so easy to achieve good trim with the system. However, as you continue to inflate the wing it will expand at the top giving you greater lift.

I have a dumb question. I swapped the dump valve up to the top. Now with the inflator at the bottom, its pretty much useless as far as using it to dump from. My old scuba pro jacket bc had an inflator with a cable that ran through the hose to tug on and dump air. Is there a setup like that I can put on my hollis rig? I think it would be nice to be able to use the bottom to dump as well.

Yes that's one of the mods that edd does. He also tucks the dump valves so they don't get snagged on anything. If you look at the picture in my first post you may be able to see how the dumps and other things are moved around

Does he specifically use an inflator with the pull type dump valve built in? That's really the meat of my question here. I have already swapped mine around, but need to purchase a longer corrugated hose. If I can set it up where it OS still effective as a dump valve, then I would like to. Right now it pretty much only serves to inflate.

I don't believe it's a pull dump. The dumps are the same as a stock harness but the hoses are larger dive rite ones. I dive steel lp85's and hp100's, and I have had no trouble getting the air out from the top of the Wing in level trim
