Question Sidemount canister light, what cord length can be considered a standard ?

    Hi guys,
we have released a new 20w LED Primary Light and also we made all HID, LED primary lights available in sidemount canister setup and we know that the ideal light cord length will depend on many factors like body length, used sidemount system (placement) etc. but what could be considered a standard length that will serve most of sidemount divers ? We offer a custom light cord length with no extra charge but would like to set some standard.

Thanks for all voices and opinion in this matter.

How about coming up with a retractable cord of some sort. Then it can be as short as needed or long. ( wishful thinking )

Hmm not bad idea although that "retractable mechanism" might be seen by many a possible "failure point" and unnecessary problem, but I like thinking.

    Thanks !

Since you are new, I am just going point you to our rules, especially Rule #2. Look at the menu bar at the top of the page, near the red line arrow.

Still gathering the voices on the standard length light cord but also have another question to the public EO connector is something that you would desire in light when diving sidemount in caves or not ? I'm strictly thinking exploration dives.

    Thanks for all input.

Few more questions to those that own lights with EO connectors:

    - do you have problems with those (EO connectors) ?
    - if yes, what problems ?
    - after what time (how many dives aprox.) ?

I'm not a sidemount guy, but I have e/o's on all my can lights and I carry a spare HID bulb and ballast in my pocket (and sometimes 2 canisters). E/Os saved the day a few times (dropped and broken HID at least once, light failure in the cave). I haven't had a problem with my E/Os, so far. They also make it easier to replace the cord if it wears out, and all my eggs aren't in one basket if I do compromise the can, light head, or cord somehow. I learned that lesson the hard way.

We typically use sidemount for tighter caves, which means no helmet or extra cord. The LM 9w primary is excellent for this purpose. I definitely wouldn't want an EO cord when wriggling in tight quarters.
Did you see any critters in that cave? StygoBites.com
