Like Becky said the hot water suits are the way to go for the long haul. I used to do some Urchin diving and Ice diving in those temps. Even when you work your butt off in a dry suit your core temp just keeps dropping and you can't keep doing the bottom times like you can in a hot water suit.
I saw that episode on the listings but did not tune in. I have watched a number of them but not any of the under-ice ones. Now that I know you guys are doing some of the filming I will be sure to watch!
"Is this thing on?"
Best part of the show was when the guy who never dove before went under, freaked out, and popped back to the surface because water got in his ears!!!
I remember diving in those temps with a regular mask. Your exposed face and lips would feel like you were being stabbed by icepicks until everthing went numb. You did not want to take your reg out of your mouth because it was hard to get back in. It could be compared to trying to put your reg in your mouth after that whole area had been numbed by novocaine, no feeling to tell you it was going in correctly!
Got to check my dvr to see if I recorded these episodes!

Jay - your so right, its like going to the dentist and getting your face shot up with novocaine then when you get out of the water you can't feel your cheeks and drool on yourself for a few hours lol Its lovely! The full face masks helped but i've dove quite a bit in 34 degree water and it hurts.
Tune in again tonight for Episode #4, they should air last weeks episode before the new one at 9pm EST!
Watched them all so far, lots of funKim and I were wondering who was filming these guys, and if the camera crew was able to both laugh and film at the same time !
