    Default Introducing the Shearwater Petrel

Last evening at Divetech, Tekweek 2012 in Grand Cayman, Shearwater Research Inc. introduced our new rugged OC/CC trimix, full decompression dive computer. After over a year of development, the Petrel now offers customers all the functionality, features and reliability of the Predator but in a smaller size. We have achieved a 42% reduction in size by volume and a 36% weight reduction while retaining a large 2.4” state of the art, full colour, high resolution display. The Petrel has been designed to accept any type of AA size battery including alkaline, lithium and rechargeable batteries.

Divers can program their choice of gases ranging from air, any nitrox to any trimix gas mix. As with the Predator, the Petrel will accept up to 5 open circuit gases and 5 closed circuit gases. The Petrel can be set in a variety of modes ranging from a simple gauge mode with a seconds stop watch to open circuit only mode which disables the cc functionality, to closed circuit mode with constant PO2 and open circuit bailout. A unit with an external connector for closed circuit O2 cell monitoring is in the works for the near future.

All the popular Predator features have been retained including dive log downloading and firmware updates via Bluetooth. A few additional features including a 1000 hour dive log have been added to the Petrel. For a complete list of Petrel features, please visit the Shearwater website www.shearwaterresearch.com

Too all of you people that have been on my nuts about me dumping my X-1 and getting a Shearwater Predator even though it is freaking huge...

I win. Holding off for a few months is gonna be well worth it to avoid strapping a brick to my arm, especially if I can get one that has external PPO2 monitoring.

I never cared about the size. The predator was just better than the X1
I like it because it's everything the predator is and cheaper. Oh, and since I started CCR, I need a constant ppo2 computer.
