This reminds me of commercial diving school. We had a retired chief master diver that was the training director, and he had all sorts of little fun exercises for us to do. One he called "Port and Starboard Steaming". You and your buddy each got one fin, and had to hold a 6 foot buddy line, and then swim 500 yards. I think this would make for a good line drill, in blackout, in a full cave class.

"These are bagpipes. I understand the inventor of the bagpipes was inspired when he saw a man carrying an indignant, asthmatic pig under his arm. Unfortunately, the man-made sound never equalled the purity of the sound achieved by the pig."

    It's a good thing.

A lot of the people who would claim this opposition is a degradation seem to be the same people who would rather everyone sit idly quiet and just let things go by... especially so if pointing out an opposing opinion that in turns steps on someones toes.
Mat, I hope you don't mind that I corrected some of your typos, misspellings and grammatical errors.

You've left a third category out. There is a large contingent of cave divers who don't want the community (or individuals within the community) to sit idly quiet, but would like them to make their points factually and respectfully. Why do you leave this large group of concerned cave divers out of the picture all the the time?

I still don't know why they asked me to be in this commercial.

I have a sword. I've named it "Kindness." I'm going to kill people with it.

civility? I've posted this before, I think. I grew up in the midwest, the northwest and the northcentral. In some places rudeness was the norm, not seen as rude. four letter words serve as comma's, periods, and even question marks. so nearly every sentence ends with at least one. It's not just language, but connotation too. As you get reamed out and begin to feel faint, you realize the guy is not angry or hostile or violent, but friendly. On the internet we all come from everywhere there is to come from and what we do at home is what we tend to do on the forums. Then, after awhile, the forum takes over and alters your ego, transforms your personality, generates an alternate version or versions... hmm. shirley may be a canary in this mine.

I'm a college professor. The last thing I need is to be pricked with shirley's sword of kindness. talk about grade inflation.
