I know some people is diving rebreathers in 40 feet deep caves, but well, not sure if that really worth it, taina is avg 70' deep but you can do it with a pair of AL tanks....

My buddy Jon (JonT) got banned from the forum. That's what they are talking about.
FWIW, Jon is a good guy but doesn't mince words. I hope his ban isn't permanent because he will contribute to some good discussions.
As a CCR diver and also a Cave Diver let me share a couple of the valid reason why someone might dive a shallow cave using CCR.
1) The security of knowing you will not run our of gas if something goes wrong. With a CCR you have so much more time to work things out which would translate to less panic and higher probability of ending the dive gone wrong safely.
2) Many people prefer to keep their skills sharp on one dive method and not changing from CCR to OC to CCR. There is a great amount of muscle memory and predive protocols when diving CCR.
I suspect there are more but these two come to mind.
John
I know almost nothing of CCR's but if someone wants to dive a CCR simply for the fun of it it would make a lot of sense even in a pool. All things being equal safety wise, why does it have to make sense? to me having fun is way more important than making sense (all things being equal safety wise of course)

One reason sited often on the opposite side of this argument is that CCR have a higher potential to result in a fatality and using them shallow when not necessary is higher risk that can be reduced with the use of OC.
So in the end no clear right answer so each diver decides on what set of risks seem more valid for their diving.
Sometime it comes down to other things like the fact that it is easier to setup, transport, gear up and clean up after a dive with sidemount than with CCR.
What I have heard is that almost every single rebreather fatality was user error.
