Default GoPro Hero2 and dive housing

    Hello all,

I was curious to hear feedback from anyone who has used the hero2 with the gopro dive housing. I am specifically interested in how well it mounts to the head and how it performs in typical diving environments. If I purchase the hero2 and then the dive housing, does it come with all the required accessories to mount it on my head during diving or do I have to buy a certain edition of the hero2?

    Thanks in advance,
    Nick

I believe you would have to go with Outdoor Edition package. It comes with the headmount and 4 sticky mount you can use on a scooter if you have one. I have not used the new underwater housing, but the head mount works awesome.

Buy the hero 2 and you get the head mount as well as several other mounting options. Then for 49.95 you can purchase the dive housing and you're set.

I did a little more research and it appears that the outdoor edition comes with the dive housing:

I don't think so. The housings in all the editions are rated to 197', but the dive housing has a flat port designed for use underwater. The others will not provide a full field of view and will have some vignetting when used underwater.

Still, $50 for a housing is pocket change and the camera is already inexpensive.

Completely agree, can't beat $50!!! So look at the list of the contents of this package:
    What’s Included:

    1 11MP HD HERO2 Camera
    1 Waterproof Housing (197′ / 60m)**
    1 HD Skeleton Backdoor
    1 Rechargeable Li-ion Battery
    1 USB Cable
    1 Vented Helmet Strap
    1 Head Strap
    2 Curved Surface Adhesive Mounts
    2 Flat Surface Adhesive Mounts
    1 Three-Way Pivot Arm
    Assorted Mounting Hardware

**The standard waterproof housing included is not designed for professional underwater photography & videography. For maximum photo & video clarity underwater, add our Dive Housing to your quiver of GoPro gear.

So you are RIGHT! Glad they put a note down there, but a little misleading considering the housing has the same depth rating. Thanks for pointing that out guys, I'll follow rysparks182 advice and buy the stuff separately. Thanks!!!

Thats correct. You can dive with the stock housing that comes with the outdoor package, but as DA said it will not be as clear due to the round port.

You need the underwater housing to get rid of the blur but you will get good results. I started out just using the headband and putting it under my hood. Eventually I changed over to a helmet so I could add a couple of lights. too much backscatter so thinking about alternatives but it certainly works well especially without the lights on if there is sufficient ambient light...and the hero2 seems to fuction pretty well in low light. Have used it to depths of 190' but some of the earlier videos were shot with the Sartek housing which still leaves vignetting on most settings. I like the $50 GoPro housing better in terms of the video itself. Examples: http://www.youtube.com/user/garyd542...e=results_main

Cool, thanks for the feedback. Do you use a color correction filter on the dive housing? I noticed that amazon sells one.

No. If you looked any of the videos there, it is basically raw video with no color correction or other improvements.
