    Default Hole in the wall

We went upstream last night, very minimalist dive. No stages, no scooters. We went to the end of the GL (Alfred's Room?), and continued on to the end of the white line. Explored a couple of jumps on the way out.

Conditions were pretty good to fantastic. It was just a little hazy to about 600', then went real cloudy low, but clear up high. Past about 700', it cleared to bath tub water clear all the way to the end.

Nice dive, very laid back. Summer in Hole is as good as it gets .

That area (the milky one) has been like that for a while now. Interesting that it's only right there.

The milk at 700' seems to be right where the cave drops a few feet deeper. Ive never stayed in long enough to see if there was as temp difference, maybe different temperature water that has intruded settles there?

Interesting theory. We will probably reprise the dive Wednesday. If we do, I'll try to remember to note the temps in that section.

The temperature is a degree or two cooler. There is nothing in the area that would explain any intrusion.

    Someone left the sprinklers on!

Isn't HITW known for being influenced by rainfall etc... more than the other millpond caves?

It's not rainfall that affects it. I think it's the golf course that sits over and close to much of the passage.

Has anyone figured out why Alford's room is colder that the rest of the cave?

I know my reference is not a cave, but I have seen this milky layer at Lake Denton numerous times. It's always in the deeper part of the lake, and the water temp in the milky layer is always a couple degrees colder.

Maybe it's some kind of dissolved solids that come out of solution in the colder water. That's just what I remember from a chemistry class I took in college... But I got a D in the class, and dropped out of college. Take it for what it's worth.
