    Default Poseidon Regs for Sidemount?

I am thinking of taking a SM course this summer and I usually use Poseidon regs when diving OC, was wondering if there was anything about them that made them unsuitable for SM as don't really see anybody diving them in that configuration. Do you have to use 90 swivels? Does anyone make them for the Poseidon regs due to the different hose size issue? Thanks.

I believe Poseidon regs have a larger market share in sidemount than they do in backmount. Those that dive with 1 "backwards" reg like them since they don't have to reverse anything on it.

For those of us that have both 2nd stages with hoses going into the right, it makes no difference.

If anything, they are more suitable to sidemount. The big advantage is they can be used from either side, eliminating the need for a longer hose of the left tank. I use both Cyklon 300s, and Xstremes, depending on the amount of junk suspended in the water. The Cyklons can handle it, the Xstremes might not. In Florida, there isn't a problem, the water is well filtered by sand.

I do have a swivel on one reg, because of lack of a port in the right place on the 1st stage. It is on the 1st stage, so it is a standard US fitting.

I disagree, those Poseidons won't work for SM. You should just sell them to me instead.....

No really, Poseidons are great for SM and I'm sure you'll enjoy using them. I use a 90deg elbow on the reg on my short hose because it routes a little better that way. If you have Xstreams(or newer Poseidon regs), Wayne @ Amigos was selling a nice Poseidon-2nd-stage-to-normal-scuba-hose adapter a few years ago. I can't recall if it had a built in elbow or if I bought it separate.

Now if you ever do decide to sell those Poseidons, let me know.

Thanks very much for all the info, glad to hear that I won't have to invest in new regs especially since I love the Poseidon's. On the off chance that I am committed to a mental institution and cannot dive jlillest has first dibs on my regs, now all I have to do is figure out which sm harness to go with...

I'm currently using Cyklons and they have worked well to date (which isn't a huge number of dives with them). I'm in the process of converting them to 90 degree adapters, which I'm having extreme difficulty finding on Aus. Hopefully I'll be able to pick the second one up when I come to Florida,

    Thanks,
    Robert

I use a set of Jetstream/Odin's. The good thing is they work from either side. The down side is the Posiedon hoses are WAY too stiff. I bought a couple of adapters to use a standard hose and love them now. Theres a 90 degree on the left second stage and it runs around my neck, a short hose on the right tank, or a 7 footer if a backmount guy is in the team.
One thing about Posiedons, put the reg in your mouth and purge it before you breathe on it. The first breath is wet if you don't. All my other regs weren't that way.
Another good thing is they can be adjusted in the water, provided you have skinny fingers and they aren't frozen stiff.
Gauge says 4300 PSI??? That's what I call Doin' It Right!

Is there any over pressurization issues when switching out the hoses or does the the adapter have a feature which accounts for this. I guess I could always just add an opv to the 1st stage.

There are two types of adapters. one has the same type OP valve as the Poseidon, the other requires an OP valve on the 1st stage. Personally, I would get the kind that is like Poseidon hoses. They cost twice as much, but never have to be replaced.
