Anybody can be calm and centered with a few candles, some incense, quiet peaceful surroundings...the trick in life is to clear your head and find that calm spot in a *poo*storm...to filter out distractions in a beehive world and focus on simple, true things. - Bob Bates

Since that picture isn't all that clear, the black thing in the center is the sidemount GEM. He is pushing it ahead coming through the restriction. It normally clips to your side, but can be easily removed, just like a sidemount tank, to get through tight spots.
Very interesting. Is it being designed as sm option or primarily as bailout option? If the latter I would like to know how it works, do you have to do anything to maintain the readiness of the unit throughout the dive or can it just sit there until it is needed for deployment, etc?
It could be used for either one, but the designer is a sidemount diver. It is the same principle as the KISS GEM. The DSV exhausts a small portion of exhaled gas on each exhale.
As a BOV, it would basically extend your bailout gas 5-8 times. As for readiness, it would probably be fine, unless the water were pretty cold. It would be hard to get the scrubber going then. A true BOB would have a preheater, or some other way to keep it "ready".
FWIW, I don't work for KISS, I just got to try one out for deepairmike.
