Edd's (actually Jakub's but not to split hairs) way is the best all around way. If you actually took a class with him or even just dove with him, you would understand how you are able to gear up in less than calm waters with his way.

I know a lot of you think Lamar's word is the word of god, but he isn't all Alpha & Omega. He has actually changed his way of setting up his gear to how Edd does stuff. Anyone see the new rail bars on the butt plate?

    Just my 2 cents.

never said Lamar's word was gospel. With Edd's you still can't jump off of a boat deck or walk around on land without strain on the bungees, that's the only advantage I see with the rings. For me, most of my diving requires jumping off of boats and walking around on land with tanks on. Not a whole lot of strain, but more than I care to use for bungees. I agree that the loops Edd uses is ideal for bottle placement, but since everything is about compromises, my gear is set up for the majority of my diving and I'm willing to sacrifice a bit of bottle trim in the water for the boat/land abilities
I know this is the cave diving section as well, but figured its more general discussion since most of us do wreck diving and other stuff as well.

This thread is set up because I wanted to emphasize that Lamar and Edd's word isn't gospel and to get dive discussion going around, otherwise we turn into the mindless sheeple that are a lot of DIR divers.

I'm actually in the process of tearing my old bungees up and making an "old school bungee kit" similar to what Edd made to use for an upcoming cave trip. I've set up all of my hoses on non turret 1st stages to go down then come back up so the bungees can go over the whole valve and grab it that way instead of just the post/knob end. We'll see how I like it, but I imagine I will. Still not sure it's the best thing for non diving situations, i.e. sitting at the surface, or anything out of the water, but in a cave you don't really have to do either, so it'll be fun to try new stuff out

    Have you considered backmount?

i dive double 72's for most of it if I can. since sidemount is primary, if I can I would rather carry them that way instead of keeping an extra set around and swapping regs etc

Edd's way has you clip your tanks onto your harness d-rings, get into the water and then put the bungees on if you want.

You are making this much harder than it needs to be.

Also wreck diving costs too much, $100-$300 for the charter. You know how much it costs to dive Madison Blue? $5 bucks. If you want wreck diving go over to the Deco Stop, they have a ton of forums for that.

I agree that some times making a compromise here or there can be a good idea and ring bungees can be a compromise, although I like the current iteration better than the previous version.

If you want to use a conventional bungee and still not strain the bungees hauling tanks to the sink on the harness, jumping off the boat, etc, just leave them set up with a choker and bolt snap. You can then clip it to a shoulder D ring directly, via double ender or via a loop of 550 cord temporarily attached to the d-ring with a birds head knot. There are lots of options other than a ring bungee.

So, who has found a good way to use a loop style bungee on a harness setup? I think if I attach from the plate the bungee would still be to far forward and pull the tanks up to high.

I use a tri-glide to clamp them down lower. It's not pretty (asymmetrical), but it works.

Ah ok. Are you doing this on the Zwing or the Bat wing? If the zwing, I am assuming you do not run the harness through the slot in the wing? You don't happen to have a picture do you?

No I still run it through the slot in the z-wing. In-between where the slot ends and the attached tri-glide on the wing is where I put the other tri-glide. Then just cinch the bungee down tight like you would the leash on your cam bands. Let me see if I can find any pictures of it.
