Thread: Hollis SMS100

I am using 100s. The leash on the cam bands is right up against the band with no slack. The bands are located 3/4 of the way down the tank. I have not had a chance to switch anything yet but when I dove the first time my tanks seemed to be a bit low (not right under my arm pit). So I will most likely be adjusting the bands. The buckle of the cam bands also dug into my hip because I didn't want the buckle to be on the outside of the tank and become a snap point for line or rock. So, I will be switching to a hose clamp with a sheath over the screw to help eliminate this issue. Unless there is some reason why the cam bands are better than a hose clamp other than the ability to adjust it without a screw driver (but I figure once I got it right I wont adjust it again).

Also, I am configuring my reg hoses just like backmount because my dive duddies will primarily be backmount. So, I am wrapping my long hose and my short hose reg also goes around the back of my neck and has a 90 degree elbow. I was wondering what length hoses people are using for the short hose reg? I used a 28" hose and it seemed to pull the reg and I was unable to look to the left when the reg was in my mouth. Maybe my tanks were just too low on my body (need to be higher up into the arm pit)?

I can't answer your tank issues, as I only dive AL80's. I do use the worm gear clamps though, and not cam bands. My tanks are my tanks, if I was traveling that would be a diffferent story. I have no issues with them and have used them on stage bottles for 10 years without issue. Personal preference is all.

As for the short hose, a 40" hose works for me. I actually wish it was about two inches shorter, but it works good and I can move my head in any direction without snagging. I tried a 36" and it was to short for the way I route my hoses. What side do you have the short hose?

My short hose is on my left tank and my long hose is on the right. When I put my tanks on I don the right tank last so the long hose is free of all obstructions.

I had a similar issue. My solution was to go with a longer hose and route it "down" out of the 1st stage. The bend takes up the extra length, but gives when you need it.

OK, so the same way I do it then.

This is how I have my reg also. the hose goes down out of the reg and then loops back up around my neck to my necklace.

I have SMS100 and put the inflator on the bottom on the bottom and found that it was to short to do oral inflation, I had to replace mine with a 20 inch. i use 34 inch short hose around the neck and 7 foot long hose with 6 inch HP hoses and 15 inch inflator hose. Here is some good info on hose lengths. http://chipoladivers.com/category/sidemount/

I will be adopting this technique, I like the idea! Thanks.

Thanks I was going to try and give rerouting the inflator to the butt a try and was not sure what length I should go with. Nice to know about the manual inflate because I wondered about that as well. I will also be using a hose clamp on the power inflator instead of the standard zip ties that came with it.
