    Default Sidemount primary light

    Hi everyone

What type of primary light do you prefere for your sidemount dives?
I have used both canister lights and without canister.
I am NOW using a SCULA 25W without the canister because i don 't realy like the cable my sidemount configuration.

    What are your thoughts??

    Thank you!!

I love my LM 12w LED. It has the longer cord and 90 deg routing from the canister. I butt mount it on my crotchstrap at the top of my thigh. Best light I've owned.

I get somewhere between 70 and 90 minutes on a pair of batteries, on high. For longer dives I have kicked it down to medium on occasion, as it gets a solid 3 hours at medium. It's a 12w LED. Extra sets of better quality batteries are only $20 or so, so I now have 6 sets (between two divers). I started diving it as a cost issue. With battery and LED technology evolving, I can't see ever going to a canister light.

I currently use a cannister, because I have never had a good enough non cannister light to try. I am contemplating trying a 1600 lumen L&M light that the LDS just got in. Cord free just seems like it would be a lot easier and more comfortable to have.

Greenwood. what type of light is that?

It the the older SSC-P7 version of this: http://www.dealextreme.com/p/mj-810e...-4x16340-57113

We have a pair of those, and now a pair of these http://www.ebay.com/itm/220929415722...84.m1497.l2649

The ebay lights actually have a slightly tighter spot, which is expected going from a SSC-P7 to a CREE XML LED (physically smaller LED). The ebay ones are getting helmet mounted for as video lights. Overall, they are good lights, with mostly tight beams (signaling has not been an issue), and have been 100% reliable thus far.

What batteries do the eBay lights take?

The all take 18650 lithium ion cells.

Question - why is the cord a problem?

I have a Light Monkey 21W LED (if that is the right nomenclature) with a 54" cord, mounted on my butt plate (actually, mid thigh ).

I route the cord up under the wing, Velcro'd to the wing bungee D-rings, then a single wrap around my left arm. No slack, nothing in the way.

    What am I missing?

If you need sidemount for the dive you're doing, chances are a cord might get in the way.

(A lot of people sidemount just because they like it, and a cord is no problem.)
