I just finished up a dive of Mayan Blue’s A line. I jumped left at the first arrow and followed a nice up and down route with some interesting restrictions, past another cenote on my left then through another restriction and then turned with a conservative gas supply. After I came out I had some nice conversation with Tom from Sweden and Paulette from Argentina who were leaving, ate a peanut butter and jelly sandwich and a banana and water for lunch. Then I said hello to two thirty something young women who walked in from the road, most likely parking their car at Naharon across 307. I carried my tanks back and heard one woman utter some surprise to see me as she covered her top so I politely turned my head and mentioned how nice the water was here. Turned out she wasn’t shy after all. No big deal considering the beaches here and the European comfort level. She jumped off the eight foot ledge and when she surfaced I applauded and stated that, “She was brave to jump off the ledge.” she smiled. I turned my back and was snapping on my tanks when I saw in my peripheral vision the other woman swimming towards the steps that I was standing on and I made the same silly comment, more for something to say than anything else. “You are quite brave jumping off the ledge like that…” as my back was turned to her she replied in perfect Mid Western dialect, “I am quite brave coming out of the water naked.” As I turned my head towards her in surprise I thought, “This never happens when I dive in Michigan!” My second dive down the A line to the second jump right to the Death Arrow line was uneventful.
As a clergy person I can say with some authority that I totally understand the Apostle Paul when he exclaimed, “Wretched Man that I am…”
