Go to Steve's web page gosidemount.com and watch some of his videos.
It will help.
I did that before posting. Actually I downloaded them all and I keep them on my iPad along with the UTD videos and some of Steve Martin's stuff from youtube.
But the details of the rigging and configuration -- particularly the interaction between the stages and sidemount bungie, and the proper hose routing and reg switching protocols -- elude me.
I put the top clip on the shoulder d-ring and the bottom clip on the rear waist d-ring.This is the same d-ring as the full primary tanks.
When the primary tanks are floatier, I clip them onto the forward waist d-ring. The clips cross each other and the tanks sit snug. At the beginning of the dive they bang around a bit.
there are two ways that I know of that are the most streamlined way, the first using regular stage straps with a longer tail, you tuck the tail in at the start of the dive making it shorter (stage is always clipped to back Dring at all times) when you get back to your stage primary tanks will have a third left and will be clipped to forward Dring, you then untuck the stage tank tail and cross clip stage to back dring this ensures a tight fit and will keep things nice and horizontal. This is very very easy to do.
second way is using a small bungee loop and a clip on the stage tank valve, loop is simply pulled over the valve and clip sticks out in between the reg and high pressure hose, stage clip has a slightly longer tail (i mean slightly) than primary tank tails, this clip is positioned in line with valve opening, same routine stage is always clipped to back Dring at all times during the dive. when you pick up stage again it is cross clipped to back dring this works because there is a slight give in the bungee loop and it will keep things nice and horizontal.
Both methods work very well and are both super easy to use, the bungee clip method is actually much simpler been using that recently and as Robert rightfully pointed out a stage strap is really just more useless "stuff" you really do not need. Since both methods work equally well I think I will use the bungee loop method from now on

Hi Phillip - any chance of a photo of the the bungee loop / tank attachments? I kinda get what you mean but would be great to see it.
how do you post pics?
