Default NACD Safety Day on Saturday, April 14, 2012

We will post more information later but wanted to notify everyone of the next NACD Safety Day which is scheduled on Saturday, April 14, 2012 - probably at Ginnie Springs. In the past, this day has been about 3 hours devoted towards safety topics and experiences followed by lunch and door prizes and then some diving with an instructor if you wish and with drills if you desire

This year, we are exploring the option of doing something different. Right now, it is more thought than ideas though. If you have any suggestions or anything that you would like to see or do, send them my way. In advance, thanks for your input.

    Safe diving,

I can't make it, but just throwing things out there, how about some form of games like dive trivia or a divers scanvenger hunt. Or a blind auction on some gear to raise money to help with things like the opening of other caves, or improving items like stairs and tank racks at others.
Life is a series of experiences. One after another. Then you die. How cool are your experiences?

Hey all, attached is a copy of the flyer for the NACD Safety Day at Ginnie on April 14, 2012 from 10AM to 4PM. The fee is $25 which will cover lunch, snacks, refreshments and a tee-shirt. Dive/entry fees for Ginnie are not included. Also, this year, we have added an optional DAN O2 Provider course. It will be an additional $25 but that also includes the materials.

We have had a few ideas for the workshop. If you have more, send them my way.

In the near future, you will be able to register online at www.safecavediving.com. I'll keep you posted.

Hey all, we have updated the website where you can register online. Go to www.safecavediving.com, click on the online store and then click on the package of your choice - with or without the DAN O2 Provider course.

Regarding the O2 course, the fee covers the course materials, and instruction is free. Upon successful completion of the course, you can get a card at no fee too.

Hey, just a bump to remind you of the NACD Safety Day which is 5 weeks away. Safety Day is a great opportunity to discuss a variety of cave training and safety topics with an NACD instructor. If you are interested let me know or you can register online at www.safecavediving.com. Once in the website, click on the online store icon. Remember also that you can register for an optional DAN O2 Provider course. You must pay $25 for the book but instruction is free.

Hope to see you at Ginnie on April 14.

it's really nice to see some promotion of the event. I for one in the middle of a relocation back to the US from Brasil and not sure if I can make it but am working on my schedule. What keeps divers interested? Caves...talks, videos, things about caves, exploration, new caves, dive chats, gear, and dive-related politics ...nice flyer (who's the gal?), great price.... would like to see an agenda...there may be some folks interested or not who might bite if they knew what Safety Day was.

Thanks for the comment whodunit68. Safety Day is an event where divers can gather to discuss and listen to safety issues with instructors. My memory is rusty but in the past, we have discussed lost lines, lost buddies, running lines (primary, gap, and jump), S drills, dive planning, deep diving, O2 concentrations, along with personal experiences anyone has to offer. Also, there has been a opportunity to dive with an instructor complete with drills if you wish. I am not sure if the instructor dives are availalbe this year so I need to check. This year, we are offering a DAN O2 Providers course. The Safety Day discussion/roundtable will be in the morning and I believe Bert Wilcher is handling. There will probably be 5 to 8 other instructors present as well. This will be followed by lunch and the afternoon O2 session which Tracy Grubbs is handling.

Cost of the workshop is 25 which includes refreshments, lunch, and a T. The O2 course is 25 which includes the book. Ginnie fees are extra. FWIW, I have found the prior 3 to be useful and informative. It seems like I always relearn someting that has slipped or I learn something new to consider.

If you wish (and this is open to all), send your email address to pr@safecavediving.com, and I will send you the draft of the journal writeup from the last few years.
