The NACD Awards are either or..... 100 dives or 100 hours, not both. Both agencies strive for the same thing.. Continuous safe diving. There will always be people trying to get around everything.... there will always be people that dont feel the rules apply to them......there will always be people that get carried away.......must be a slow night that people need to split hairs.
    9/11....... I remember .........

At 100 hours I may have it! For some reason I think a cave dive should have 1.5-2 hours bottom time. (Cause I don't get to go much)
I have 75 cave dives and just 3 that are less than 1 hour. Only 30 that are less than 1.5 hours.
Forrest, I agree on the sump dives. One sump dive should count 3 NFL dives, 6 if you do virgin cave.

You can't possibly have less than 93 hours then... giving you credit for 1 hour on 30 dives, and 0 hours on 3, and 1.5 on the remaining 42. I think you have it covered.

One thing I don't understand (and don't think this is a complaint, because it isn't) is why the dives between Intro and Full are not counted at all. It seems like a bit of personal experience between the two classes would be a good thing.

The dives between classes serve to prepare you for the next class. That IS a good thing. The Awards are given to fully trained cavedivers, which means that we can only count divers AFTER full cave.

After doing my first real Sump dive on Friday, I wholeheartedly agree that 1 virgin sump dive should count for 6 NFL gold line tours. I was more exhausted just getting my gear through 400' of river cave to get to the sump before the dive even started than I have been after doing 1mile+ swim dives in NFL. Never mind the 12" viz and running a line once I got to the sump, that was the easy part.

1hr15 minutes to get my gear to the sump, 10 minute dive, 15-20 minutes exploring the new found dry portion, another 10 minute dive, another 1hr to will myself back out of that thing. And this one didn't even require any rope work.

FWIW, on Feb. 4th, the NSS-CDS board of directors voted to keep Abe Davis the way it is now. The logic is; that it is more the preparation, and planing, than the length of the dive, that gives the diver experience in making safe cavedives.

Good Call. I would have to agree.
