    It's a skateboard helmet.

Says "Triple Eight" on the back.

    Size: Large

I took the padding out of the front and back, leaving only the small foam at top of head. Imagine the helmet's pictured with all the foam around the sides and back removed. With a 7mm hood, it fits nice and snug.

    A bit over the top.

I think two torches each side would sufffice, as at 2000 lumens it may actually be too bright at the beginning of the dive.

It all depends how it performs in use.

Sorry to bring up a month old thread, but this thread gave me ideas when I started making my helmet. I took a kids bike helmet, Lightning McQueen from "Cars", removed the foam, added some PVC, painted it, put some soft spongy foam on the inside for a little padding, and added my lights. Thanks for the ideas everyone. Here is my current setup.

    Try the Petzl.

Comfortable, safe, and requires no modification (except if you use a rebreather n which case you may want to cut a section off in the back if hoses push against it)

My dive helmet is an original Ecrin Roc. It even has the old "death" chin strap that cavers in the 80s made such a big fuss about.

I like mine because it will work well for vertical caving (if I ever dive a sump in a vertical cave). I'm not comfortable caving around falling hazards in bike or skateboard helmets, but at the price they go for it looks like they would make an excellent diving helmet (non-vertical). The drawback of the Petzl is that it gives you a big conehead, which can get in the way in tight spaces in whatnot.

If i had the money and time I'd probably opt for one of the helmets that JamesK or others on this site have made. They're clean and simple and work great for diving. If I were starting over and didn't have the Petzl already, I probably wouldn't get a Petzl helmet. Camp and some other climbing/caving companies have a bunch of great inexpensive helmets if you're a weenie like me and need something UIAA approved.

I would not use mine if it was for vertical caving. I am all about protecting my noggin. I have already had 7 concussions, most mild but still 7. I am like you, a weenie. If I could use my combat helmet, I would! LOL

Thanks! It works just fine for what I need it for.

I made a little mod to my Ecrin Roc to reduce the profile for diving. For non vertical dry caving here, its a decent compromise I think.

I couldn't begin to tell you how many I've had(not a joke). Boxing and wrestling for years followed by MMA for a year...I've been hit i the head a lot. Might explain a few things about me lol. I mostly want a helmet to protect me from sharp things that would cut through my hood(and subsequently my flesh) and convenient for holding my lights. And I'm tired of getting hit on the head by falling limestone...
