    Default nomad with no transpac?????

    Hello
first of all a little presentation, my name is Paolo, I'm living in Rome (It). A recent little problem with my back has forced me to think to SM ( no more 16+16 liters tanks on my back...). I can buy a dive rite nomad wing for a good price, but really I don't like te transpac. Is possible to use this wing with harneses like utd, razor... ?
Can I also have some feedback on the utd 51 lbs wing used with heavy steel tanks?
(the price of the utd wing is insane....)
    Thanks a lot
    Paolo
Sorry for the english, i've to improve it

Hi Paolo. I also transitioned to side mount due to shoulder injuries. I am using the Nomad XT with a transpac harness and an extra-wide tec butt plate.

Part of a problem you might have with putting the Nomad on another harness- The Nomad is a "captured" wing. The wing is designed to be under neath the harness straps. This holds the wing in place, and prevents it from going "taco" on you in the water.

The Nomad has a set of loops and straps that are built in, to hold the wing in place on the harness straps. IF your harness/straps are not in the right positions, the Nomad will not fit into the harness correctly, and the wing could shift around on you.

There are 3 sizes of the Nomad JT (single piece unit) and 3 sizes of the Nomad XT (modular) design. I had to try several sizes before I found the unit that fit and worked for me.

Have you tried both the JT and XT designs? Have you had someone help you check it for size? Make sure you have the right size? THEN... once you have the correct size transpac, this harness is very adjustable. You may have to spend "a bit" of time playing with the strap lengths and positions in the water before it feels right.

Hang in there, side mount transition can seem frustrating at first. But it will come together eventually.

Thanks a lot for your answer
I think to place the harness outside of the wing, and I can also sew a sort of soft plate
No jt available here and no xt to try, I need your inputs...
I can easy buy the z-plus...

    Hi Paolo

Steve Martin web page (http://www.sidemountscubadiving.com/...8/Default.aspx) may be helpful. In addition, if you make a search in this Forum, you are going to find a lot of different Side Mount configurations.

    Safe diving.

    yes the link is usefull
now I know that is possible to razorized a sms100, he has placed the harness in the same way that i'm thinking to do with the nomad.
I preferer a continuous webbing, i dont like the quick release and adjustable straps.
    ciao

I guess comfort and convenience are overrated.

its that DIR mentality that QR buckles and adjustable straps are Dangerous.

for all of you that have that mentality think of this:

there are tens of thousands of climbing harnesses out there that are not continues straps and have buckles
Hell mine has two QR buckles ant three adjustable straps.

    DIR is really just DIS!

    BTW:
I have a Nomad, the old transpac 2 rig and a home made rig
I have also had an armadillo

    Right sludge
    It is only my preference
Hi Billy, I love the sea but also the mountain , I know some little things about alpinism. I don't think QR are dangerous , only I don't need them.
In water i feel better with a hog rig . And the hog rig isn't the DIR system, but only a part ( as you can teach me)
Really I'm not interested in a DIR yes/DIR no debate.
    Thank for your answers
    Paolo

    Paolod,

If this is what you are thinking about doing I'm not using this wing any more. Actually, it's almost new, and is rigged for a set of doubles or a canister rebreather. If you're interested, PM me and maybe we can work out a deal.

Rebreathers are something that we have to go to in order to dive the way we want to dive. They are not something we go to for any other reason.
