I haven't tried the kindle elsewhere yet, Forrest- I'll be at Dulles later then Austria and we'll see if those locations change things. If not, I'll look at Shirley's link.

i don't think it's necessary, the fix shirley linked to works just fine. and it's good to know about the device - I had no clue that menu was in there and now have figured out how to do other stuff too.

Depending on location and transmission type you should not have a problem. The big issue sometimes is data movement and you connection. I had both fiber and Vsat in Nothern Afghanistan. Vsat is not fun in heavy snow, soot or rain.
Biggest problem I had was the reflect site was in Africa. In this situation we hit google news and the jumped back through to the main google mirror in the US. Just a little more interesting on the connection.
