I really liked my training (Cavern, Intro, AN/DP, Apprentice) with Jim Wyatt. He can holler underwater also. And I understood what he was telling me, even 50' underwater with my cranium fully inserted into my rectum.

'Twas not my last brain fart that day, unfortunately.

Stupid question but do you need to take an intro to tech course first before a cavern course?

It doesn't hurt. I wrap mine in with the cavern class. Most of my students have already done research and have a pretty good idea of the gear involved in cavern but I make sure they know before we hit the water.

What K Mejean says is true, but it isn't required. The whole idea of having cavern is so OW divers can see if they are really interested, before committing to a lot of equipment they may never use.

It's not required, but it really depends on the motivation for the cavern class. If you're of an OW mindset and just curious about the dark places, or looking to improve your skill set, we can go right into Cavern in mostly OW gear. If you're planning to go all the way, and/or are already interested in more technical diving, then I recommend Intro to Tech first, in the configuration you choose (BM or SM). Then, you can more comfortably and effectively take Cavern in the same configuration you'll use in the rest of your cave training.
