Thread: 3 new SM rigs

  1. #1

    Default 3 new SM rigs

Any of you guys attending DEMA get a chance to see the new Hollis, HOG, or Highseas Millworks side mount rigs?

I have seen the new Highseas Millworks rig, and it is very nice. Still in prototype stage, so I added a few ideas. I will be at DEMA tomorrow, and will look at Hollis, and HOG.

DiverightinScuba posted pics of the Hollis and HOG setups on the deco stop. Not a fan of the HOG, but that's on the initial pics, the Hollis looks really nice though

Yea, I saw that one at Cathy's this weekend, too. "Razor inspired" harness with a fairly compact but durable wing.

There's the thread. Only thing is I don't see a top dump valve... That's a little wonky. I'd add a chest strap as well. These new small rigs are nice and all, but for what I need it for, the Nomad harness is still outperforming any of the competition so far. I may see if I can't modify my old Travel wing and see if I could get something nice and small out of that. With the way I sink, those small wings would be good for AL80's only, no way I could even dive my steel 72's with them

So, what do you think that big flap on the top of the SMS 50 is for?

It's hard to tell from the photo, but the HOG looks like it might be their take on the JT.

What??? Hollis is doing that, too? Is it just a rebranded UTD?

It looks like a weight pocket.

Don't get me wrong I love my HOG stuff, but my JT cannot be beat. I like a buttplate and a chest strap, neither of which is on that. Just my 2 cents.

Anyone get a closer look at the reversible 2nd from HOG? Is it balanced or unbalanced, it kinda looks like the OMS reversible 2nds they used to make. Either way, I want one.

no idea why it would be unbalanced, it's probably the same thing apeks did with the ATX-XTX. Same guts, just make the housing symmetrical to reverse it. Haven't seen it, but from the pics, that's what it looks like
